Spice garland finds unique place in spice market

The garlands made by stringing together spices like pure cardamom have found a unique place in the country's spices market, a top Spices Board official said here today.
"The latest product launched by the Spices Board, the spice garland, has been commended for its novelty," Spices Board Chairman Dr A Jayathilak said.
He said spices are considered to be very auspicious in the Indian culture since time immemorial and spices being presented in the form of garland is like commemorating the glorious past of Indian spices.
Jayathilak claimed the use of spice garlands made by the Spices Board, a regulatory and promotion agency for Indian spices, to receive guests, instead of regular floral garlands, leaves the guest astonished in seeing this particular use of spices.

"The spice garland is handwoven using good quality spices which have adequate shelf-life in terms of its fragrance and colour.
"The garland is now making waves in the market and can be bought from Flavourit stalls in Kerala or by send a request by mail," he told PTI.
Jayathilak said Spices Board continuously works, encourages and promotes its exporters and other stakeholders for developing innovative products or ideas for the betterment and popularisation of different aspects of Indian Spices. "The value added spice products have always kindled the feeling of curiosity in the minds of the onlookers and has now carved a niche for themselves by catering to regular users and consumers for the same," he said.

Spice chocolates and spices dyed products are two of the major value added spice products with great demand and the Board has been receiving ample requests and inquiries continuously from domestic as well as international markets for these items, Jayathilak said.
