Thane's Chief Judicial Magistrate R M Kulkarni yesterday convicted Gokulsingh Satyasingh Ravat, a resident of Wagle Estate in the city, under section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of IPC, and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
Assistant Public Prosecutor E B Dhamal told the court that the accused and the victim were known to each other.
The accused was in love with the victim, but she rejected his offer.
An annoyed Ravat then attacked the girl on December 27, 2011, and she received severe wounds on her palm. When she raised an alarm, those around rushed and nabbed the accused, the prosecution told the court.
The prosecution examined 11 witnesses, including the victim and the doctor who treated her.
Taking a serious view of the act of the youth attacking the girl, the magistrate observed that there is a growing tendency among youths to commit such crimes in a failed love.
