An auction for junior squash players took place earlier this week, which saw eight franchise owners bid for 56 young stars, a media release issued here said today.
The Super Squash-Junior 2018, a league being held under the auspices of the Squash Rackets Federation of India, is earmarked for players under 15 years. Players will compete in seven different categories from February 2 to 4, it said.
The top 56 players of Maharashtra, based on the latest SRFI rankings, have been classified into the Boys and Girls Under-11, Boys and Girls Under-13 and Boys and Girls Under 15 to make it age-appropriate for every competitor.
Sportastic , the organisers of the Squash League, confirmed that they were looking at Chennai as the next step.
"We are at an advanced stage of finalising a deal for the league in Chennai," director Kunwar Pal Singh said.
With the league being for kids, no real money was used during the auction. Each team was given 1,000 points to buy their 7 players, for seven different categories.
All 7 matches in each tie will be played, even if a clear winner emerges at any stage, as each win will earn the team 10 points.
