The 70-year-old retired top cop was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his house at Deula Sahi here in Bidanasi police station on Tuesday.
"It's a case of suicide", Cuttack city DCP Sanjib Arora said after the post-mortem was done.
Police sources said Jachuk had locked himself in a room of his house after his wife left to a nearby market in the evening. She found her hanging after returning home at about 9 pm.
Beginning his career as a lecturer, Jachuk joined Indian Police Service in 1967 and went on to hold several key posts in Odisha police before retiring as Director of Intelligence in 2003. He is survived by wife Prabha and a married daughter Madhusmita.
