The SriLankan airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding with the leading aircraft manufacturer Airbus for six A330-300 and four A350-900 aeroplanes, a top official of the airline said.
"Adding more new A330's to our fleet, combined with the unbeatable economics of the A350, will allow us to achieve a strong economical performance," SriLankan Airline CEO Kapila Chandrasena said.
"We are grateful of this renewed confidence that SriLankan Airlines is placing with us," said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer.
"The winning combination of A330's and A350 XWB's will allow SriLankan Airlines to offer the highest levels of comfort to their passengers while also benefiting from superior efficiency levels at any time.
The airline put down losses to those limited to specific regions such as Europe which consisted of 60 per cent of the losses in 2011-12.
The airline currently operates over 250 flights a week out of Colombo to European, Middle Eastern and Asian destinations, using a fleet of 21 aircraft.
