"I have never missed a chance to vote. It is our right to vote and it is not good to waste it," centurion Haji Mohammad Sultan told reporters after casting ballot at Bakshipora in Eidgah area here.
The ageing man was assisted by his son to the polling station.
Sultan has never missed his date with democracy while Mosavi, younger brother of Hurriyat Conference leader Aga Syed Hassan, cast the first vote of his life.
Sumaya Gul (19), another first-timer, was excited after casting her vote at a polling station in Maloora area in Batamalloo assembly segment in Srinagar district.
"I have been waiting for this day from my childhood. I loved the experience and I cannot wait for the assembly elections to exercise my right to vote," she said.
These men and women braved the militant threats and also ignored separatists' call for boycott of the polls.
Some senior political activists in Ganderbal, however, chose to stay away from the polls.
