Over 2700 teachers appointed through the Centre's flagship programme Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in Nagaland have threatened to boycott work from March 10 for not getting salaries for the past four months.
There are 2730 teachers appointed under SSA since 2010 but their salaries have not been paid regularly by the government, alleged president of the Nagaland SSA Teachers' Association Visechol Chaya and general secretary Samina Meru.
They said the teachers appointed under SSA have not been paid since November last year and they have decided to boycott classes from March 10 if their dues were not cleared.
The teachers have also not been paid their arrears since 2013, they alleged adding the Association had submitted a memorandum to the government on January 30 but none of their demands were met.
"So we have decided to go for boycotting the schools till our demands are fulfilled," they said.
The Association has demanded that the SSA teachers be inducted as regular government employees and their salaries be released from the non-plan revenue expenditure.
It has also demanded that all new appointments and filling up of vacant posts be suspended till the issue of the SSA teachers was resolved.
The Association has also sought support from student organisations and NGOs in settling their demands.
