Two days after a 17-year-old girl committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of a mall in east Delhi's Anand Vihar area and her parents alleging that she took the extreme step after her pictures were circulated by a jilted lover, a youth was arrested here today.
Indira Puram police today arrested a youth who was blackmailing the deceased girl whom he had met through a social networking site two years ago, and had circulated her "objectionable" photographs, said SHO Sheelesh Yadav.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team nabbed the youth who has beenidentified as Rinku Kumar, a native of Karauli district in Rajasthan.
During interrogation, he confessed that two years ago he came in contact with the girl through a social networking site and had first met her at an east Delhi Mall.
"We often used to meet each other. After knowing about our relations, her father scolded me and threatened me of implicating in a court case. In retaliation, I circulated her photographs,"Rinku admitted before the police.
After seeing the photographs, father of the girl Kunwar Singh, a sub-inspector in UP police, admonished his daughter and warned her not to meet the boy again.
On September 22, the girl had committed suicide in the Cross River mall around 7.15 pm and had left behind a suicide note in which she apologised to her parents, police said.
Her father had told police that the girl was depressed since a jilted lover had circulated her "objectionable" pictures to him and other family members.
An FIR under section 306 of IPC (Abetment of suicide) has been registered and Rinku has been sent to jail, the SHO added.
