Starvation deaths: NHRC seeks report from Bengal
The panel issued the notice asking the state Chief Secretary to submit the report within four weeks in connection with the deaths of two women and a child in Jalpaiguri tea estate earlier this month.
The action came following NHRC taking cognisance of a media report regarding alleged starvation deaths in the tea estate.
The NHRC spokesperson said the media report alleged that the workers in the tea estate were yet to get 62-week ration and two-month wages.
