BJP today hailed outgoing West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan as one of the best Governors of the state and held the Mamata Banerjee government responsible for creating roadblocks for him in performing his duties.
"I have seen several governors but indeed Governor M K Narayanan was one of the best. He has performed impartially and to the best of his ability," state BJP president Rahul Sinha said after a courtesy meeting with the outgoing governor here.
"He (Narayanan) could have done much better had the state government not created hurdles in his way," he added.
When pointed out that it was actually the Narendra Modi-led NDA government that had ordered Governors, appointed during the UPA regime to quit, Sinha said, "Nobody has asked him to quit. This is not the case. What we feel is that he himself has decided to quit as the regime which had appointed him had gone out of power."
West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan resigned yesterday, the fourth governor to put in his paper, after Nagaland Governor Ashwani Kumar, Uttar Pradesh Governor B L Joshi and Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt, in the last few days.
The 80-year-old Narayanan, a former IPS officer and Director, Intelligence Bureau and the National Security Advisor, was appointed as the Governor of the state in January 2010. His tenure was supposed to end on January 15, 2015.
