States should cooperate with Centre: J-K Governor

Amidst the ongoing tussle between the Delhi and central governments, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today said that all state governments should cooperate with the Centre.
"The states should cooperate with the Centre in case of a larger need," he said delivering Anandswarup Gupta Memorial Lecture to commemorate the 45th Founders' Day of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D).
Vohra's remarks came in the midst of the ongoing tussle between the AAP government in Delhi and central government over CBI raids on Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The Governor said it is the duty of every state to safeguard the territory under its jurisdiction and it is also the duty of the states to have a professionally trained police force with adequate strength.

"Peace and order should be maintained for the development of country. Pre-emptive action is important to tackle terrorism," he said.
Vohra said the role of police has widened and has become complex after Independence. Anandswarup Gupta was against political interference in the functioning of policing, he said.
The Governor also recalled the historical developments that took place in the police reforms after independence.
Vohra said many states have shown their apprehensions in implementing its recommendations on police reforms. The states should not delay in implementing the reforms.
