States to be awarded for record foodgrain output

Madhya Pradesh will be given the Krishi Karman award for foodgrain production in the large state category.
Odisha will be awarded for the medium state category, and Manipur in the small state category.
"President Pranab Mukherjee to give away Krishi Karman Awards next week to states for best performance in raising foodgrain production in 2012-13," an official statement said today.
These awards are given to states in three categories: large - where production is more than 10 million tonne; medium - where production is between 1 and 10 MT, and small - where production is less than 1 MT.
Awards are also being given to states for production in rice, wheat, pulses and coarse cereals.
The statement said that in the individual foodgrain crops, Chhattisgarh is to be awarded for rice, Bihar for wheat, Jharkhand for pulses and Andhra Pradesh for coarse cereals.
Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura are to get commendation prizes for total foodgrain production.
Similarly Maharashtra to get commendation prize for rice, Assam for pulses and Punjab and Haryana for rice and wheat.
Krishi Karman Awards were instituted in 2010-11 to motivate states to enhance foodgrain production as well as productivity.
