Uttar Pradesh government has directed the district police chiefs to step up security in their districts in view of the encounter of eight SIMI activists near Bhopal recently.
Principal secretary Home, Devashish Panda has asked respective districts to remain alert and step up security to ward off any untoward incident in reaction to the Bhopal incident or protest against it, a Home department spokesman said.
Directives have also been given to maintain a close eye on the social media and on rumour mongers besides stepping up security in jails and Indo-Nepal border, the spokesman said.
The directive also asked for deployment of QRTs at sensitive and important spots and warned of strict action in case of any laxity.
