Assam government's Principal Secretary, Finance department Himanshu Sekhar Das said that modernisation of the 60 treasury offices within the next few years would speed up clearance of bills.

He said all payments from treasury offices would be made to the banks and all concerned persons must open their accounts in the respective banks for receiving payments at the earliest.

Assam was ranked fifth in the country in clearance of bills by District Treasury offices.

Das was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new Treasury office building here which was being constructed to replace the century-old British era heritage office.
