The 55-kg idol of Goddess Durga was seized last night from the youths near Parsuiya village here while they were on their way to sell it, Superintendent of Police Hiralal said.
The 'ashtadhatu' (eight metals) idol is made of gold, silver, copper, zinc, lead, tin, iron and mercury.
The idol was stolen from a temple in Pratapgarh district on March 22 this year, he added.
"On a tip-off, a joint team of Peetarpur and Special Operation Group nabbed Vikram Verma (20) and Kuldip Gupta (22) from near Parsuiya village and recovered the idol," he said.
