Post demonetisaton, stone pelting incidents in Jammu and Kashmir and Left Wing Extremism (LWE) related incidents have come down, Parliament was informed today.
In a written reply, Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla said the overall security situation in the country post demonetisation has been under control.
"In Jammu and Kashmir, stone pelting incidents have reduced considerably and militants were forced to rob three banks due to unavailability of cash.
"In LWE areas, Rs 90 lakh have been seized from Maoists cadres/ sympathisers since demonetisation and 564 cadres and sympathisers have surrendered during the period November 8, 2016 to November 29, 2016," Shukla said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8 had announced demonetisation of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes in a major assault on black money, fake currency and corruption.
Relying to a separate query, the minister said, "There has been an increase of about three times in PAN allotments after demonetisation in the period April to October 2017, compared to same period last year."
Replying to another query, he said as on December 6, 2017, a total 30.71 crore accounts have been opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).
