A post-graduate student from Bihar was today arrested from Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand, allegedly for being a member of a gang involved in cyber crime, police said.
Mukesh Yadav, who was pursuing his studies from Bihar, was arrested by a team from Lohshinghna Police Station of Hazaribagh for his alleged involvement in cyber crime, said Superintendent of Police Anish Gupta.
Gupta described the arrest of Yadav as a "big catch" of an inter-state gang involved in committing cyber crime as the gang was operating in various parts of the country including Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Ranchi, Dhanbad, Jamshedpur, Deogharh and Hazaribagh.
Yadav hailed from a village under Fatepur police station in Gaya district of Bihar and this was the first arrest made in connection with cyber crime in the district, the SP said.
Using cloned ATM cards, the gang was withdrawing huge amount from the accounts of genuine account holders of different banks, the SP said, adding that the police were in the process to collect details from the mobile phones and 73 cloned ATM cards recovered from the possession of Yadav, who is in his early 20s.
The SP said Yadav has also provided valuable information about other members of the gang, who managed to escape.
A hunt was on to apprehend them, he said.
The SP said Yadav has confessed that the gang had withdrawn Rs 21 lakh from the accounts of various persons during the past few days.
He said further investigations are goining on and the seized cloned ATM are being sent to State Forensic laboratory at Ranchi for examination.
