'Students should tell people on impact of environment damage'

Coinciding with Earth Day, the Directorate of Higher Education, Nagaland today held a one-day workshop on Sustainable Development and Waste Management for college students under the theme 'It's Our Turn to Lead.'
"The students' community should educate the people living in rural areas on the importance of environment and the damage it will cause if not preserved," said Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary for Higher Education and SCERT, Deo Nukhu while inaugurating the workshop at the Capital Convention Centre here.
He encouraged the students to spread the importance of conservation of the environment.
"We are collectively responsible to protect and preserve the nature for the present and future generation," he said.
Nukhu lauded the efforts of the district administration for their role in conserving the environment by putting a ban on hunting, jungle burning and other practices which destroy the environment.
Director Higher Education, C Khalong said the main motive of the workshop was to educate the students so that they bring positive changes to the Naga society.
Resource persons for the daylong workshop Associate Professor, Law College, T Limanochet Jamir and Associate Professor, City Law College, Dimapur, Niksungla dwelled on the topics related to leadership, waste management, water and climate change.
