Sub-divisional officer, middleman held for accepting bribe

The sub-divisional officer (SDO) of Ambad and a middleman have been arrested tonight by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on the charge of accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from contractor.
Two sand-laden trucks were seized by the revenue officials, following which the contractor approached the SDO to get those released, Deputy Superintendent of Police (ACB) Pravin More said.
The SDO, Savita Chowdhar Palve (44), initially demanded Rs 8 lakh bribe for releasing the trucks and not taking action against him. The amount was later settled for a lesser amount following negotiation, the ACB official said.
On the complaint of the contractor, a trap was laid and Palve along with the middleman, Shrimran B. Nagare, were arrested red-handed, More said.

Of Rs 3 lakh bribe amount, Rs 50,000 was in new currency notes and Rs 2.50 lakh in demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, the ACB officer said, adding a case has been registered in this regard.
