In Berhet area of Sahebganj district the police had to open fire to disperse bandh supporters who shot arrows at the policemen injuring three cops, a police officer said.
One of injured policeman Brijendra Kumar had his right ear pierced by the arrow prompting police retaliation as the cops fired ten rounds in the air to disperse the mob, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Baidyanath Prasad said.
In Dumka district six vehicles including a bus and trucks were torched while a truck and a dumper were set alight by bandh supporters in East Singhbhum district.
In West Singhbhum district, bandh supporters attacked a truck carrying coins worth lakhs of rupees and injured its driver, Superintendent of Police, Michael Raj S said.
Bandh supporters, the police and State Bank of India officials were unaware about the coins being transported from RBI, Patna, he said.
On being informed, a police team reached the spot and ensured the truck's safe journey to Chakradharpur.
Many shops and business establishments downed their shutters while the long distance buses were off the road.
The mining sector was affected by the bandh.
The Opposition parties including the JMM had called the bandh to protest the passage of decades old Chhotanagpur and Santal Paragana Tenancy Act (CNT and SPT) on November 23 claiming that it would hurt the interests of the tribals.
