Sugar prices fell 0.22% to Rs 2,671 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators offloaded positions amid higher supplies from millers in spot markets.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in March declined by Rs 6, or 0.22%, to Rs 2,671 per quintal with an open interest of 23,270 lots.

Similarly, the sweetener for delivery in May shed Rs 4,or 0.15%, to Rs 2,754 per quintal in 12,130 lots.

Market analysts said offloading of positions by speculators, triggered by higher supplies from millers in the physical market against weak demand from bulk consumers, mainly kept pressure on sugar prices at futures trade.
