Soon after Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna's resignation, opposition BJP launched an attack on the ruling Congress today saying "superficial changes" at this juncture will not help change the party's fortunes in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The opposition party termed Vijay Bahuguna's ouster as the first fallout of "factional feud" within the state unit of Congress and said its second fallout will emerge after Lok Sabha polls when the party will lose all the five parliamentary seats of the state.

"A change of face at this juncture when the Lok Sabha polls are just a few months away will not lead to any change in the party's fortunes at the hustings," Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Ajay Bhatt said.

"Bahuguna's replacement will not tilt the scales in favour of Congress."

People's disenchantment with the Congress is complete and these superficial changes are going to be of no consequence, he said.

Bahuguna, who is the eighth chief minister to put in his papers since the formation of the hill state in 2000, said he was resigning on the directives of the party high command.

Union minister Harish Rawat is tipped to take Bahuguna's place.
