Superprofs to hire 100 people, raise funds this fiscal

Online edu-tech startup platform Superprofs is looking at doubling its headcount to about 200 people in the next few months as it expands operations to tier II and III cities in the country.
The Bengaluru-based firm connects students preparing from competitive exams like IIT-JEE, GATE, CA, UPSC and GMAT, with professors from across the country.
"Often the best professors are strained for time and cannot teach more than a certain number of students. This is where we step in. These classes are recorded and streamed for the students, who can access these sessions over their mobile devices," Superprofs.Com CEO Piyush Agrawal told PTI.

Superprofs has about 150 professors on board and about 40,000-50,000 active monthly users.
The startup has raised two rounds of funding so far. In December last year, it raised its Series A funding of USD 3 million from Kalaari Capital and IDG Ventures.
Asked if the company was looking at raising more funds, Agrawal answered in the affirmative saying the funds will help in further expansion of the product.

"We are also looking at expanding our team. We have about 90 people and this we expect it will grow to about 150-200 across centres in Bengaluru, Delhi and Hyderabad," he said.

Agrawal added that students today use the Internet for education and for preparing for exams.
"Besides tier I cities, we are witnessing a significant traffic from tier II and III towns. Students, who earlier could not prepare well for entrance exams due to a lack of good teachers in their city, are adopting online exam preparation at SuperProfs.Com," he added.
Agrawal said the company is witnessing a strong traction in the uptake of its services.
"By March, we expect to touch one million students and 400-500 of the best professors," he said.
