Congress today accused the Centre of plunging Uttarakhand into a political crisis by using party rebels to "dislodge" a democratically elected government, but said the support from the people of the state has strengthened the party's resolve to expose the "conspiracy".
"A government committed to the development of the state and the interest of its people was toppled in an unconstitutional manner, leaving the state at political crossroads," Pradesh Congress President Kishore Upadhyay told reporters here.
"But the overwhelming support of people to our 'Save Democracy yatra' in the constituencies of the nine rebel MLAs has only strengthened our resolve to expose the conspiratorial and anti-Uttarakhand face of the Centre," he said.
He said the yatra which started on April 10 from different points in the state, will return to Dehradun on April 18.
He said he would himself stage a padyatra in Tehri and Uttarkashi on April 12 where former Chief Minister Harish Rawat would also participate.
Calling them a "handful of Jaychands", Upadhyay said party rebels were used by BJP as its instruments to oust a democratically elected government in Uttarakhand and derail the process of its development.
Upadhyay also accused BJP workers of creating obstacles in Congress rallies and urged the Governor to take necessary action as it could lead to law and order problems in the state.
Rawat was shown black flags and his convoy pelted with stones on Kanwali road here on April 2 when he was proceeding for a padyatra-cum-public meeting, prompting the Congress to call it the handiwork of BJP "goons".
