A 1985 IPS officer, Purkayastha who is at present DG (CID), will take charge of the state police tomorrow, officials said.
He was Kolkata's police commissioner till February before being promoted ahead of the state Assembly elections.
IPS officer Raj Kanojia, DGP (intelligence), will be the new Commandant General and DG of Home Guards in place of D P Tarenia.
Kanojia will also hold the additional charge of coastal security.
Tarenia, on the other hand, will be the DG of State Crime Records Bureau.
Besides the reshuffle in these four IPS officers, the government has also transferred 41 inspectors.
Some of the inspectors who were earlier transferred by the Election Commission during Assembly polls were re-instated by the government.
