Mounting a stinging attack on the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj today said neither the borders of the country nor the women within it have been safe.
The UPA government has failed the country so much that neither our borders nor our women have been safe during the past decade, she told election meetings in favour of BJP candidates for Gopalganj and Sheohar Lok Sabha seats.
"The outgoing government was so busy with corruption and scams that it did not bother to bring the bodies of our soldiers who were beheaded by Pakistani soldiers... It was only after the BJP put pressure that it agreed to ask Islamabad to hand over the bodies of our troops," Swaraj said.
Criticising the UPA for jeopardising internal security of the country, the senior BJP leader said it was due to the government's insipid attitude that the morale of terrorists and anti-national forces had bolstered and they were carrying out terror activities at will.
"Whether it is the carnage in Assam or blast in a train in Tamil Nadu, terrorists are having a field day with the Centre unwilling to complete probe in an expeditious manner in such incidents," Swaraj said.
The Congress-led government's entire tenure has been marred in corruption in which a number of ministers had to go to jails, the Leader of Opposition in the 15th Lok Sabha recalled and rued that development took a back seat during the past ten years and industrial production came to a grinding halt, resulting in an alarming rise in unemployment rate.
Charging the UPA government with bringing disrepute to the country and undoing all good works done by former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee, Swaraj claimed the country could move in a positive trajectory only if Narendra Modi-led NDA comes to power at the Centre.
The Congress rout in Delhi, Chhatisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan Assembly polls was only a beginning... The people will punish it heavily in the Lok Sabha polls, she added.
