Suspected chain snatcher dies after falling off building

A suspected chain snatcher, a minor, who tried to escape from locals who were chasing him, died after falling from a building here, police said today.
The 17-year-old fell from the second floor of a house while attempting to jump on an adjoining building at Humayunagar last evening when some local residents chased him on the suspicion he was a chain snatcher, they said.
"He first fell on the compound wall between the two buildings, where iron rods pierced his thighs, and then his head hit the ground. He suffered injuries on his head and died while undergoing treatment at a government hospital late last night," Langer House Police Station Inspector Md Javeed said.

"It is not clear if he was a chain snatcher...But he was being chased by some locals, who said he was a thief," the Inspector said.
