Suspected militants fire at sarpanch

The militants barged into the compound of the residential house of sarpanch Habibullah Mir at Goripora village in Sopore town, 52 kms from here, at around 12.20 pm and shot him, police said.

Mir has been admitted to sub-district hospital Sopore in an injured condition, they added.

This is the first attack on a panchayat member by militants this year.
