Swami arrested for attempting to molest girl

A 50-year-old Swami was today arrested for allegedly attempting to molest a minor girl while she was on her way to school at Kanuvai on the outskirts of the city.
He was part of a 50-member group of swamis from various parts of the state who had gathered at Kanuvai to take part in a night pooja in view of 'Mahalaya Amavasai', police said.
As all of them were returning to their villages today, one of them, identified as Jeevanandam, suddenly pulled the hand of a 15-year-old girl near the government school.
On learning about the incident, some villagers gathered at the spot and beat him up before handing him over to police.
