T'puram to be elevated to 'Knowledge hub' of the country

The Kerala state capital would be elevated to the status of Knowledge Hub of the country with 'Technocity' going on stream in two years here, Kerala IT Parks CEO Harishikesh Nair said today.
Technocity would become fully functional with companies engaged in emerging technologies setting up their ventures in the Knowledge City campus in addition to major IT/ITeS companies, Nair said in a statement.
Withthe Technocity project going on stream immediately, Thiruvananthapuram will become the Knowledge Hub of the country, while Kerala will become the Digital State, a process envisaged by the state government, he said.
The new generation emerging technology activities that will come up in the Centre for Excellence in the Knowledge City include Block Chain, Cyber Security, Cognitive Science, Mobility, Analytics and Artificial Intelligence.
The Centre of Excellence at the Knowledge City will be developed with Academy - Industry collaboration to produce state-of-the-art technology based on latest research and development, he said.
Technocity will also provide world class IT infrastructure and support services for Start-ups, Small and Medium IT companies in addition to global IT/ITeS Companies, he said.
The master plan for the Technocity project is ready and the total land area of 423 acres is in possession.
The design for the first building is ready and will be completed and companies can commence operation by 2019, according to Nair.
Work on the road network, electrical distribution, water supply and other basic infrastructure are in the process of development.
To attract more global companies, land lease rates have been reduced to 33 per cent from the current level, he said.
With regard to expansion of third phase of Technopark project, he said the largest IT Building in the country, the twin towers 'Ganga' and 'Yamuna' with one million square feet area has been allotted to major IT/ITeS Companies and is full.
Boston based Taurus Investment has confirmed that they would commence their Taurus Downtown project in 20 acres allotted to them immediately and it will have one of the most modern commercial campuses and IT Townships coming up in the Phase 3 campus.
