Faulting the "baseless spin doctors" for "failure" to effectively take on Narendra Modi's campaign blitzkrieg, a Congress leader today sought action against such party men "having close proximity to the high command" who came out as "toothless tigers" in this election.
"The so called baseless spin doctors in Congress corridors having close proximity to the high command and all those who enjoyed the power and pompous celebrity status were seen as toothless tigers when it came to fighting the communal forces," former Youth Congress President Satyajit Gaekwad said in a statement.
Gaekwad in his remarks titled "whose responsibility is it any way?" insisted that UPA-II was a "great success" from the point of view of framing pro-poor policies.
At the same time, he said the implementation of the policies was "poorly timed and was available for public knowledge at much later stage than it should have been".
Congress party, he said, could not reach the masses effectively nor could it educate its cadre at block level or state level. Besides, irresponsible statements from senior leaders on non-issues gave the opposition a handle to drive their directionless criticism of the Congress, he noted.
He wondered as to who stopped the Congress media managers to ensure ample publicity to the "failures" of the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate as Gujarat Chief Minister and highlight the achievements of the Congress ruled states.
He claimed Gujarat was only number one in "foetus killing and malnutrition".
Besides, he wondered as to who stopped Gujarat leaders from taking to the streets and why did Congress media managers "fail" to bring these issues at the national level.
"I am sure the Gandhi family whom the nation trusts shall definitely look into non-performing celebrity assets of the party and make them responsible and answerable for not having been able to pluck the fruits of sheer hard work and dedicated efforts of our honest and most capable economist Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi," said Gaekwad.
The Congress leader, who hails from Vadodara in Gujarat and has represented the constituency in the Lok Sabha sometime back, expressed confidence that the Congress will "definitely cross 140 seats and stall the progress of the saffron march".
