Goa government today appointed national award winning Konkani-Marathi filmmaker Rajendra Talak as Vice-Chairman of Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), a nodal agency hosting the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
The post had fallen vacant after Damodar Naik, former BJP MLA and film artist, had resigned in October, claiming that he has to concentrate on Fatorda constituency, where he had unsuccessfully contested in 2012 State Legislative Assembly election.
"Talak has been appointed as the new Vice Chairman of ESG," a senior official from Goa government said.
"I will try to give best to ESG. I have taken over this morning and first priority is to review preparations for upcoming IFFI," Talak told PTI.
The filmmaker, known for his national award winning Konkani film "Aleesha" was on the executive council of ESG.
Talak said the preparations are on full swing to host upcoming IFFI which will begin on November 20.
"ESG has always functioned with transparency and I will maintain the same level of transparency," he added.
However, the Federation of Film Fraternity of Goa (FFFG), a body of filmmakers, has strongly opposed the move to appoint Talak as the Vice Chairman.
The body has urged Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to immediately dissolve the entire General Body of ESG and reconstitute the same.
FFFG Vice President Laxmikant Shetgaonkar has sent a letter to Parsekar in this regard.
