Three policemen, including a deputy superintendent of police, were killed today when the Taliban militants attacked them in Pakistan's port city of Karachi.
DSP Fateh Mohammad along with two police guards and a driver were on routine patrol when their car was attacked by four bike-borne militants in Gulshan-i-Hadeed area of the city, a police officer said.
Following the attack, the militants managed to escape on their bikes. A manhunt was initiated to nab them, the officer said.
Meanwhile, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan spokesman Mohammad Khurasani claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was carried out to avenge the killing of militants in Karachi.
With more than 18 million people, Karachi is Pakistan's largest city and financial hub. It is a major source of revenue for the government but businesses have been badly hit by the instable law and order situation.
