Jadavpur University authorities will discuss with students union representatives, teachers and non-teaching employees the issue of entry of outsiders into the university campus during late evening hours.
There had been reports of outsiders entering the campus during night hours and being involved in drug abuse. Vice-chancellor Suranjan Das had asked all stake holders to help in improving public perception about JU and sought the cooperation from everyone to help combat any such activity.
Das said today, "We will hear from all sides at the discussion. We will not impose anything, we will not go to the talks with pre-set ideas or agenda. I don't believe in imposing anything.
"I am expecting once the issue of entry of outsiders comes up for talks everyone concerned will offer his view and suggest possible measures which will help us to chalk out steps," he added.
Arts Faculty Students' Union (AFSU) General Secretary Debraj Debnath said, "We are positive about the talks. We think there should be discipline and security at the campus. But again we are also in favour of maintaining the liberal space of JU."
A Jadavpur University Teachers Association member said, "We will take part in the discussion which will be held in first week of January after the Christmas vacation."
The meeting will be held in the wake of reports of a young woman accompanied by some friends, all of them outsiders, allegedly misbehaved with the university security officials at around 11 pm in the campus last week and damaged furniture at a room of AFSU when those present tried to pacify her.
AFSU and FETSU members said such incidents should not be allowed to happen in the campus.
