"Everyone has the right to protest peacefully in a democracy. But Congress workers beat up our workers badly in the presence of administrative officials when they approached the CM to get details of action taken on matters of public interest," Tamta, who is also a BJP MP from Almora, told PTI.
Alleging that the "brutal attack" on BJP workers was carried out in the presence of the circle officer at the behest of the CM, Tamta claimed it had left party worker Jagat Martoliya badly injured.
Terming the incident an assault on democracy, the Union Minister demanded a high-level probe and punishment to those found guilty.
Four BJP workers including Martoliya were injured yesterday when they were going to gherao the Chief Minister under the party's 'Hisab Do Jawab Do' programme, Tamta said.
