Tanmay Srivastava missed out on a hundred by a solitary run but Uttar Pradesh held steady to reach 267 for five in their first innings on the second day of their Group A Ranji Trophy cricket match here today.
Overnight 113 for no loss, the hosts lost a wicket early in the day when opener Akash Verma departed after a 95-ball 57 which included five fours and couple of sixes.
Tanmay, however, held one end even as wickets tumbled at frequent intervals on a low-scoring day.
His 181-ball stay at the crease was brought to an end by Waseem Raza, who was the top wicket-taker for the visiting side with two strikes to his credit.
Srivastava, who struck 15 fours, was trapped LBW by Raza in the 68th over.
Arish Alam (38) and Eklavya Dwivedi (23) were holding fort for the home side when stumps were drawn for the day.
Brief Scores:
Uttar Pradesh 1st Innings: 267 for 5 (Srivastava 99, Verma 57, Raza 2-43).
