Global internet solution firm Tata Communications (TCL) expects its media and entertainment segment to grow at an annual growth rate of 40 per cent through financial year 2017-18.
The company has undersea cables that provide internet connectivity to more than 240 countries and territories. To further leverage its global sub-marine cable and nearly 1 million square feet of data centre asset, Tata Communications has forayed in to media and entertainment (MES) business where video consumes large amount of bandwidth.
"Now content producers want content to be produced once and delivered to multiple platforms and devices at different times. This is a fundamental shift that has happened in the recent years," TCL Growth Ventures and Service Provider Group CEO Rangu Salgame told PTI.
"Today, we carry about 25 per cent of the internet routes, we are the only Tier 1 ISP in the 5 continents. Our MES segment has grown at CAGR of 20 per cent in fiscal 2014-15 and expected to grow at CAGR of 40 per cent through financial year 2017-18," Salgame said.
The company added 31 new customers in its media and entertainment segment (MES) during FY'15 including Red Bull Media House, ESPN, Thompson Reuters, Echostar and Skytel.
Tata Communications is also official connectivity provider for live Formula 1 race. The company today announced that it has been chosen by Formula One Management to provide broadcast services for the GP2, GP3 and Porsche Supercup racing series.
The company will provide end-to-end fibre and satellite solution to broadcasters from across the globe for these car races that are scheduled to be held across US, Europe, Russia and UAE this year.
He said that company expects significant MES business from North American market followed by Asia and UK in coming years.
