Tata Steel observes 161st Birth Anniversary of pioneer

Private steel major Tata Steel today observed the 161st birth anniversary of Geologist Pramatha Nath Bose (P N Bose) to recall his invaluable contribution towards the setting up of Tata Steel and steel industry in general in India.
The occasion was marked with garlanding the statue of P N Bose by Anand Sen, President, (TQM & Steel Business) Tata Steel and R Ravi Prasad, President, Tata Workers' Union, and Sudhanshu Pathak. Vice-President, (Steel Manufacturing) Tata Steel.
Speaking on the occasion Sen said 'Today's occasion forces us to reflect upon the next frontier of geology. I also think as India grows and needs more and more of minerals, the ability to quickly understand and uncover new deposits within the country would become critical as we go forward.', he said.

Recalling Bose's contributions, Prasad said he identified the mineral deposit regions in the surrounding areas of Jamshedpur.
A thematic exhibition on Bose and a special brochure was put up for all to get a better insight to the legendary man's life and contributions.
Born on May 12, 1855 in a remote village of Gaipur of 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, Geologist. Bose graduated in Science from London University and passed out from the Royal School of Mines the following year in 1878.
During his years as geologist, he discovered iron ore mines in Dhulli and Rajhara in Madhya Pradesh. The most outstanding achievement of his life was the discovery of iron ore deposits in the hills of Gorumahisani in the state of Mayurbhanj. Odisha.

Following the discovery, Bose wrote a letter to J N Tata on February 24, 1904 which led to the establishment of Tata Iron and Steel Company at Sakchi.
