Noted industrialist and Tata Group's chairman emeritus Ratan Tata will chair the first 'Kaya Kalp' council meeting at Rail Bhawan here on May 12.
Kaya Kalp, the new innovative council of Railways, has been set up by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu to recommend innovative methods and processes for the improvement, betterment and transformation of the state-run rail network.
Tata was appointed as the council's head on March 19.
The meeting will be attended by Prabhu and all Railway Board Members, a senior Railway Ministry official said.
Railway union leaders Shiv Gopal Mishra and M Raghuvaiah, who are also part of the council, will also be participating in the meeting.
"Since it is the first meeting, an overview of railways will be presented," the official said.
The council is likely to find ways to attract private investment for capacity augmentation, expand rail network and improve passenger amenities through innovative means, he said.
