Software major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) today said it is establishing a FC Kohli Centre on Intelligent Systems (KCIS) at International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, with an investment of Rs 20 crore.
Tata Sons Chairman Cyrus Mistry, TCS CEO N Chandrasekharan and Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao today laid the foundation stone of the centre that will come up on 60,000 sq ft area.
"It is good to see two leaders in their fields - TCS and IIIT - Hyderabad taking an initiative in this area and together create a legacy of Mr Kohli, the father of Indian IT industry," Mistry said in his address.
Chandrasekharan said the initiative is significant as it is going to promote a lot of futuristic research in several areas of intelligent systems, robotics, machine learning and natural language processing and many of these technologies are relevant in the automation that would be seen in the future.
"The new KCIS will conduct high impact research in intelligent systems, a critical area for carrying out sustainable innovation in topics like natural language processing, robotics and cognitive sciences," he said.
Apart from high quality research, KCIS will focus on entrepreneurship promotion in the intelligent systems area, as startup companies are the best means to transform research in academic labs for the benefit of society at large, a TCS statement said.
