The 40-year-old singer said even though technology has given the opportunity to singers who are not good, it has also made it easier to spot great singers from the mediocre ones.
"There was a time when Lata, Rafi, Kishore, recorded the song in one take. But now even if a singer has sung just one line, with the help of technology every word that he has sung can seem melodious. To those people who have a good texture but are not good singer, it has given them a chance to sing," Nigam said on the sidelines of Agenda Aajtak.
The singer treated the audience with some of the melodies like his first hit 'Sandese Aate Hai', 'Kal Ho Na Ho', 'Tujse Naraz Nahi Zindegi' among others.
Nigam said that he is thankful that he sung 'Yeh Dil Deewana' from 'Pardes', as it saved him from getting typecast with emotional songs.
"And I got 'Mujhse Naraaz Ho To', which was picturised on Anupam Kher. I realised that I needed to change this. 'Yeh Dil Deewana' saved my life and I got different kinds of songs after that," he added.
Ghazal singers Talat Aziz and Pankaj Udhas, who were in the audience, showered praise on the singer.
Udhas said that Nigam reminds him of the late versatile singer Kishore Kumar.
