Sixteen-year-old Neeraj Kushwaha was knocked down by a dumper truck in Jhalwa locality under Dhoomanganj police station area, killing him on the spot, police said.
The truck driver fled the spot abandoning the vehicle on the road.
After the accident, a crowd gathered around the body and blocked traffic on the road and attacked the police party which arrived to take away the body for post-mortem.
The locals alleged that police had arrived after much delay and the laxity of policemen on traffic duty was responsible for the mishap.
Some of the irate locals also set afire a police jeep and another vehicle parked nearby following which police resorted to lathi charge to quell the mob.
