Temperatures likely to rise in next 2-3 days

North and central India are expected to witness a rise in maximum temperatures in the next two-three days with heat wave like conditions in Marathwada, Vidarbha, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), maximum temperature is likely to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the plains of Northwest India and by 1-2 degrees over West India and Telangana during the next 2-3 days.
Skymet, a private weather forecasting agency, said there is likely to be a gradual increase of 1-3 degrees in next two days across Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and North Maharashtra.

"The affecting western disturbance has moved away from Western Himalayas, paving way for northwesterly winds over the region. Sunny weather and clear sky will be witnessed across entire region.
"In absence of any weather system, northwesterly winds have been strengthening with speed of 30 kmph gusting up to 40-45 kmph. These hot and strong winds will continue to sustain strength for next 48 hours," Skymet said.
As a result, several areas including Delhi could see dust raising winds during this period, leading to increase in mercury.

"Moreover, no relief is likely in coming days, at least for next 4-5 days. With this, isolated pockets of plains may even witness heatwave. Maximum temperatures have already showing a rising trend, with day maximum settling around 40 degrees Celsius.

"Some parts of Central India are also reeling under heat wave like conditions, which is likely to worsen further," Skymet added.
"The maximum temperature are likely to be above normal over most parts of India during April 17 to 21, except western coastal regions, Gujarat, western Madhya Pradesh and north-eastern states with probable heat wave over parts of northwest and central India (comprising Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, east UP, Jharkhanad, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal) and parts of southern peninsula (comprising Telengana and Rayalaseema)," the IMD said.
