The miscreants last night barged into the temple at Barabar hills and damaged the busts of Goddess Durga and Kali, and a shivalinga worshipped by the locals and tourists, Makhdumpur police station in-charge Rajnish Pandey said.
The miscreants also damaged a solar light intalled there recently to illuminate the area, including the temple, he said.
A case has been registered by the priest Mahant Kedar Bharti in connection with the vandalism at the temple, Pandey said.
The Barabar hills has been declared as a protected place by the state government and quarrying of all kind of natural resources banned in view of its archeological significance as the hills have several caves of the Maurya period.
