Tension prevailed in Koop village of Rampur but situation was brought under control after a PAC platoon and police contingents were called in from three neighbouring police stations, Superintendent of Police Sadhna Goswami said.
One youth was killed on Wednesday in firing after a clash broke out between two communities over allegations that grazing animals belonging to one group had entered into the fields of the other.
According to police sources, one person has been booked on charge of instigating people to fire at rivals causing death of the youth.
Police were waiting for the post mortem reports to proceed with the probe, added Goswami.
Meanwhile, a team of BJP activists headed by district president Baldev Singh Aulakh visited the village and demanded from state government a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the kin of the deceased and immediate arrest of the miscreants.
