Trouble started when members of a community objected to construction of the wall last evening, they said.
The wall was being constructed as per the orders of the district administration.
Senior police and administrative officers rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Additional police force has been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
Cases has been registered against 40 people from both the communities for hampering construction work and disturbing peace in the area.
