The lorry strike has affected the textile, leather, and oil and turmeric trade in Erode district.
A textile trader said more than Rs 200 crore worth of textiles had piled up as they waited in the hope the strike would end. They were unable to send goods to Kerala and other places from where they had got orders
Some of them had started sending their textiles to North India by goods trains. But Railways were accepting limited stock and there was very heavy crowd for booking parcels.
Office bearers of Merchants Federation said the strike has affected transportation of Leather, oil and textiles to North India.
Lorry owners said more than 6000 lorries in the district are lying idle and due to the strike, more than 15,000 lorry drivers and cleaners have been rendered jobless.
