'Thakurbarir Thaali' to take foodie on nostalgia trip

The food that Rabindranath Tagore loved during his lifetime would be served once again to interested customers as part of the celebration to mark the 156th birth anniversary of the poet.
Named as "Thakurbarir Thaali", the platter serving delicacies savoured by the Bard and his household, will be brought back by the State Fisheries Development Corporation at a restaurant in Nalban, a hangout zone, next Sunday.
Revealing the Bard's gastronomic side, the food will be a mix of delicacies from East Bengal (now Bangladesh) and present West Bengal, an SFDC official said today.
Today was the concluding day of the three-day festival 'Janmadiner Khaowadawa', which was inaugurated on the Bard's birthday on May 9.

"For past three days we had showcased a few recipes from the book 'Amish O Niramish Randhan' (Non-veg and Veg Food) by Tagore's niece Prajnasundari Devi, published in 1900. Now these will be rolled out for more people from Sunday," the official said.
The spread includes Bhetki pudding, one of the most favourite dishes of Tagore.
Other delicacies include jackfruit fish (carp with jackfruit), spicy boal fish, chingri (prawns) with poppy seeds (posto), pulao sprinkled with fish cubes, shoal fish with green mango, fried chapila fish, prawns in methi leaves, potoler dorma with stuffings of Boal etc.
While food was served in marble and clay plates at Thakurbari, "for our food festival we are using crockeries made of clay," he said.
