An eight-year-old thalassemic boy's joy knew no bounds when his dream of becoming a senior police officer for a day came true.
Roop Aurouna, from Telangana's Nalgonda district, has been suffering from Thalassemia, a life-threatening ailment. He wished to become the Police Commissioner of Hyderabad for a day.
The boy, who needs to undergo blood transfusion every 15 to 20 days, wanted to become Police Commissioner for a day and 'Make A Wish Foundation' fulfilled it, the NGO's coordinator, Pushpa Devi Jain, said.
Roop, whose father is a former municipal councillor and mother works as a teacher, apparently wanted to control the law and order situation in the city. To fulfil his wish, he was symbolically made the top cop of Hyderabad for a day yesterday, Jain said.
"We have witnessed smiles and joy on those little faces, which has brought positivity and happiness with every wish accomplishment in their lives. This has even helped the children to sometimes overcome their medical condition and strengthen their hope for the future," she said.
Thalassemia is a blood disorder passed down through families (inherited) in which the body makes an abnormal form of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. The disorder results in large numbers of red blood cells being destroyed, which leads to anaemia.
'Make A Wish Foundation' grants such wishes to children suffering from life-threatening medical conditions.
