Police said one 45-year-old C Subbu, took the driver's seat of the water tank which was supplying water in the R S Madai area near here, even as the driver was regulating the people who had gathered to fetch water, and started the lorry.
As the driver of the lorry had put the lorry on reverse gear, the tanker started moving in the reverese killing a 65-year-old woman,Gunjammal on the spot and injuring three others.
Police said the driver of the lorry had told Subbu that he would come to his area after supplying water to people in R S Madai.
But he told the driver that he had been cheating them for a long time and tried to take the lorry to his place.
